Flawed - Issue 4 - February 2017

Sometimes you have to go away for a bit. Sometimes you have to take a step back and really analyse what you are doing. How can you expect to improve or move forward if you just keep on attacking a problem in the same way to no aveil. Like everything in life, eperience is key. Through these experiences you change, you grow... you look at things differently and that can change your direction. What was important then may seem only trivial now, and vice versa. That is why it is important to re-evaluate your journey and constantly be adapting to improve and strive for the best. That is exactly what has happened between Issue 3 and Issue 4 of FLAWED.

I decided that it was time for a little break, I wasn't entirely happy with the direction FLAWED was taking, something just didn't work, it was a bit all over the place, it's identity was a bit hazy. Rather than continuing to create issue after  issue of a magazine that I wasn't entirely happy with I thought it was best to take a step back and get to the root of the problem, delve into the inner workings of FLAWED and really try and find it's purpose; the magazine's soul if you will.

After a lot of reflection, one day it just hit me. The magazine is about us, you and me... people. It is all about our stories, it is raw and organic, natural and beautiful in it's simplicity and honesty. I soon realised that within the actual submitted content the magazine's identity was unclear as there was both Fashion Editorials and raw emotinoal stories. Due to this I made the decision to feature only submissions which feature a muse, not a model. The inspiration needs to be organic, it needs to come from the muse and the photographer, not be premeditated to sell a product or showcase a look, but showcase the individual beauty of the one being photographed and tell their story.

- Model: A person with a role either to promote, display, or advertise commercial products (notably fashion clothing) or to serve as a visual aide for people who are creating works of art or to pose for photography.

- Muse: A person or personified force who is the source of inspiration for a creative artist.

After implementing this small change the magazine just felt right, it felt as if it had a clear purpose, FLAWED was back.

We can always take the easy route and ignore a reason as to why we are not happy in the hope that it will get better, but let's face it, in reality we have to take control of our own lives. If you are not happy, really try to get to the root of it, make the necessary changes, face your demons, hold up the mirror and take a long hard look, do you truly like what you see, if not, be tough on yourself, be honest with yourself, until you can genuinely be happy with the reflection staring back at you. It is a tough journey but nothing worth having in life came easy, just make sure you try to enjoy the journey at the same time...
Life is for living, not just existing.
